Rio Tinto and Mamanguape

About the two cities

The city of Mamanguape is located about 60km from the state capital João Pessoa and is known as the "Queen Of The Valley", because it sits in the fertile valley of the Mamanguape River and is a large producer of agricultural commodities.

In Mamanguape, there are several historical buildings, such as churches and the Fênix Cultural Center with its multipurpose auditorium (cinema, theater and Convention Center), a toy library, an exhibition space, a digital inclusion center, and a music room. In the Manatee Project Museum visitors can see manatees' bones. Still in Mamanguape is the Monte Alegre sugarcane plant, where sugar and ethanol are produced. Monte Alegre was the first plant in Brazil to manufacture sulfur-free sugar.

Rio Tinto is a neighboring city and is located in the coastal part of the northern region of the state; it is famous for its beautiful beaches. In Rio Tinto, visitors can enjoy beaches such as Praia de Oitero, Praia de Campina, and Barra do Mamanguape, a beach with dunes. Another asset of the city is the Praça da Preguiça, a public park where you can observe sloths in the trees; sometimes the sloths come down and approach tourists for food. The Manatee Project is also a great attraction in the region: some manatees get stranded in the sands of Barra do Mamanguape and are rescued by the project. People can access the beaches and the project through the Mamanguape River.

Testimonials about Campus IV

  •  Ivonaldo Leite, professor at campus IV

"The Center of Applied Sciences and Education (CCAE), in UFPB's north coast campus, combines two dimensions: it offers qualified academic training through its various courses, and it is a pleasant community space, both in the Mamanguape and Rio Tinto units. In addition, the region boasts natural and historical tourist attractions and an inviting cuisine, especially at the beaches. It is also served by a network of inns and hotels to welcome visitors. The welcoming spirit of the local population is also noteworthy.  After all, UFPB's North Coast Campus is an option for training marked by academic excellence; the location offers conditions for a stay with quality of life.”

  • Dorgival Soares, student at Campus IV

"Campus IV, located in the cities of Rio Tinto and Mamanguape, has the necessary structure, from which we can highlight the students hangout areas; the several points where we can meet other students deserve to be highlighted, because on most of the campus area there are places that foster interpersonal relationships. With respect to the two cities, there aren't as many events as in other bigger cities, but there are show sites such as the Quinta Universitária, and other cultural events. Rio Tinto has the beach plus a remarkable historical structure.”

  • Suênia Tavares, student at Campus IV

"UFPB's North Coast Campus (CCAE) and the two cities that share it are pleasant in several aspects. UFPB Campus IV has satisfactory public areas and, at the academic level, produces essential research for human improvement in their fields of study. It is an excellent place to gain knowledge and enrich yourself culturally, taking into account the diversity and history of the region. In addition, Campus IV becomes even more affable because of its location in an area full of tourist attractions, providing visitors with a captivating stay and the opportunity to enjoy good experiences.”
